Some Easy Tricks To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Worcester Home

Spiders are creepy houseguests. There is something disturbing about finding one clinging just above the light switch in your bathroom, or having one slowly crawl up the wall in your living room. But spiders aren't just creepy. They're also mess makers. If you let spiders run wild in your Worcester home, it will start looking like a haunted house. Spiders make webs. Some spiders make lots of webs and tend multiple webs at the same time. If you've had enough of spiders trying to take over your Worcester home, we have some spider-prevention tips that will help.

Web Removal

If you see a web in your home, don't let that thing sit there for too long. Some spiders create egg sacs in their webs. An egg sac can have 300 baby spiders in it! That's a lot of tiny spiderlings that could be crawling around your home. Get a spider web removal tool and dispose of spider webs when you see them. You should do this on the inside and outside of your home to reduce spider populations. If you choose to use a vacuum to suck spider webs up, be sure to dispose of the bag outside when you're done. Tiny spiderlings have no trouble getting out of most vacuums.

Indoor Insect Control

When spiders start creating webs in your common areas, it is usually because there is an available food source. If you want fewer webs, and fewer spider sightings, you need to get control of insects inside your home. Some tips we recommend are:

  • Make sure all your screens are in good working order.
  • Refrain from leaving exterior doors open.
  • Keep the interior of your home clean, especially the trash receptacle.
  • Put fruit in your fridge, rather than on the kitchen counter or island.
  • Be aware that potted plants can be a source for a fungus gnat infestation. Spiders love fungus gnats.

Exclusion

Once you've worked to get control of spiders and insects on the inside of your home, it is time to turn your attention to the outside. Inspect your exterior and address any potential entry points. Your doors, windows, and foundation wall penetrations are key areas to check first. A useful tool for sealing gaps and filling in holes is a caulking gun. The application of a silicone-based caulk in targeted areas can make a big difference. Check to make sure your door sweeps and weatherstripping are making a good seal, and make sure all of your vents have a cover.

Remove Harborage

Spiders like to hide in objects that lie on the ground, and they are particularly fond of organic material such as wood piles, brush piles, and leaf piles. If you have organic piles in your yard, expect to have spiders. Remove these to reduce spider habitats.
