MicE

What are mice?

Mice are small mammals that belong to the order Rodentia, or rodents. All rodents are characterized by having teeth that never stop growing. To keep them trimmed, they constantly gnaw things. They are one of the most common pests in Rhode Island and throughout the United States.

What do they look like?

Mice are very small, generally 2 to 3 inches long plus a tail. Most are light gray, brown, or black in color and have big eyes and ears.

Do mice bite?

Mice can deliver a painful bite if they feel cornered or threatened.

Are mice dangerous?

Yes. Mice are known to spread many different diseases, including Salmonella, Hantavirus and more. Their chewing also causes problems, as chewed wires can pose serious electrical fire hazards.

What are the signs of a mouse infestation?

The first sign that you are likely to notice is mouse droppings. They are about 1/4 inch long, black and will likely be found near the mouse’s source of food. The other major sign to look for is the animal’s nest. It is generally located in an area of low traffic that is dark most of the time. Mouse nests are made of anything that shreds easy, such as newspaper or cardboard.  Remember, at the first sign of an infestation you should call Big Blue Bug Solutions.  A mouse problem is much easier to handle if you take care of it before it gets out of hand.

Why do I have a mouse problem?

Most likely the mice in your home found their way inside while looking for food and shelter.

How do I get rid of mice?

Mice can be extremely difficult to eradicate from your home. In most cases, professional help is needed. To prevent rodents from entering a structure, their capabilities must be understood. Our wildlife division has the experience and knowledge to LOCATE and REPAIR potential entry points to reduce rodent activity. If you need help with rodent control in Providence, Shrewsbury, or elsewhere in Rhode Island or Massachusetts, contact Big Blue Bug Solutions today.

First, make sure all food is stored properly. Use airtight, plastic containers and immediately clean up any spills or messes to avoid attracting mice into your home. Also, carefully check the outside of your home for possible entry points. Mice only need an opening the size of a dime to gain entrance to your home or business. Common entry points are tears in screens and openings around pipes or vents.
