If you're thinking, "No, duh!" We understand. It would be laughable to hear a public service announcement pointing out how cold this winter was. Besides, it's cold every winter! That is just something we live with here in Maine. The point of this heading is not to state the obvious but to take a moment to think about this important fact. It gets cold in the winter. And the colder it gets, the more money we pay out to keep ourselves warm. While we will soon be leaving this cold winter behind us and heading into spring and summer, we need to remember this cold feeling. It may just prompt us to do something this spring that we should have done years ago. It may inspire us to invest in more insulation.
The insulation in your home is like a winter hat. If you go outside on a cold winter day with a baseball cap on, all the heat in your body is going to go right up through your head and out through that cap. A baseball cap is a horrible way to keep heat in. But, if you choose to put on a thick knitted hat, you'll be nice and toasty. That's because the heat stays in your body.
If you own a home in South Portland, you already have insulation. You'd be crazy not to. So we're not suggesting that you have "no hat," so to speak. We're just saying it is possible that the insulation you have might not be doing as good a job as it could--sort of like that baseball cap.
If you've been thinking it's time to improve your insulation, we'd like to suggest pest control insulation. Here are some reasons why:
- Over time, insulation can become compacted or develop gaps. Pest control insulation is a blow insulation. It fills in the gaps and creates an extra layer of thermal protection.
- As you can probably guess, pest insulation also offers protection against pests. Attic spaces are a popular location for pests. When you have pest insulation, you are actively protecting your property, and your family, from all of the many problems that come with having pests.
- Pest insulation is also flame retardant and resistant to mold, fungi, and algae.
If you live in South Portland or Southern Maine, you know how important it is to keep the heat from escaping during the winter.
