Hey New England, Are You Ready For Mosquitoes?

|

In Worcester, Providence and other New England communities we know summer has arrived when the mosquitoes start biting. In fact, we joke that there’s a fifth season in our region – mosquito season! Unfortunately when mosquitoes are dive-bombing at our heads and putting a damper on our outdoor fun, there’s nothing funny about it.

Not only annoying, mosquito bites can actually be dangerous to you and your family. That’s because infected mosquitoes can spread West Nile virus – an arthropod-borne (arbovirus) that can, according to the CDC, cause febrile illness, encephalitis or inflammation of the brain, and also meningitis. On their website, the CDC also points out that between 1999 and 2012 there were 37,088 cases of the West Nile virus reported and 1,549 deaths associated with this serious health problem.

So what can you do to prevent mosquitoes from taking over your property and plaguing your family this summer? Our Long Island pest control friends at Parkway Pest Services put together a few mosquito prevention tips that are relevant in our area as well.

If you’ve eliminated all areas of standing water and implemented the other tips Parkway mentioned in their blog post and you are still dealing with mosquitoes, contact Big Blue Bug Solutions. We offer mosquito control in Worcester and throughout our New England pest control service area that is designed to reduce mosquito breeding sites and control mosquito larval as well as adult mosquitoes. And even better, this pest control program also takes care of ticks (you know those pests that spread Lyme disease) that have made their way onto your property!
